Eco-Tourism Project at Mangalajodi
An eco-tourism
project is being implemented at Mangalajodi village (on the shores of
Chilika Lake in Orissa) since October 2002. This project started by
Wild Orissa
is aimed for the benefit of the erstwhile poachers/hunters from this
village, who had come forward to forsake the path of killing of birds
(both resident and migratory) and got together to form a bird
protection committee i.e. Sri Mahavir Pakshi Surakshya Samiti. The
income generated through this small venture is an effort to enable
these one time poachers to eke out a living. This project has been
supported by the Chilika Development Authority.
