Monitoring of Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks Program

The Monitoring of Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks Program which was also launched in 1997 has been another major success story for Wild Orissa. Many remote forest areas and sanctuaries in the state of Orissa have been visited, surveyed, and necessary monitoring reports regularly filed with the forest authorities. These have included Kondakamberu, Gupteswar, Kapilas, Kuldiha, Hadagarh, Satkosia-Thakurmunda (Mayurbhanj), Athamallik, Kamakhyanagar, Baliguda, Belghar, Karlapat, Ushakothi, Badarama, Debrigarh, Bhittarkanika, Phulbani, Dhamma, Damanjodi and many more. Wide media and press coverage have been given on problem areas in these areas from time to time. Sanctuary Asia has also assisted in this by way featuring campaigns on Debrigarh and Sunabeda in the recent past on the request of Wild Orissa. These efforts of Wild Orissa have enabled it to occupy a position of a watchdog for the wilderness areas of the state.
