    Report on Wildlife Affairs 2007

    WILDLIFE AFFAIRS 2007 was organised by Wild Orissa, a wildlife and nature conservation group, from 1st October 2007 to 7th October 2007, as part of the organizations’ annual wildlife conservation awareness program coinciding with the National Wildlife Week celebrations across the country.
    WILDLIFE AFFAIRS 2007, launched on 1st October 2007, included organizing wildlife awareness campaigns in schools located in rural areas in the districts of Khurda, Puri, Angul, Sundargarh, Rayagada, etc. in the state of Orissa, interactions with forest fringe village communities through audio visual media. Volunteers from Wild Orissa visited schools located in rural Orissa and interacted with children, which the organization believes will one day lead India in the field of wildlife and nature conservation. Mobile workshops on wildlife conservation were organised. Audio visual presentations on the state’s rich biodiversity were put forth. The details are as follows:-

    1st October 2007- WILDLIFE AFFAIRS 2007 launched in Kalupada High School located at village Kalupada in Khurda district of Orissa. School children were made aware of Orissa’s rich faunal diversity and the need to conserve them, with photographic presentations, etc.  An audio visual presentation on the state’s rich biodiversity was made by Shri Aditya Charan Panda from Wild Orissa.
    Kartia Sahi Upper Primary School located at village Mangalajodi on the shores of Chilika Lake in Khurda district of Orissa was the next. An audio visual presentation on the state’s rich biodiversity was made by Shri A.C.Panda from Wild Orissa.School children participated in a signature campaign to conserve Orissa’s bio-diversity and wildlife.
    Shri Nanda Kishore Bhujabal, Shri Aditya Charan Panda, Shri Satyabrata Mishra, Ms. Singdha Nanda, and Shri Diptiranjan Patra from Wild Orissa participated.

    2nd October 2007:- At a function to celebrate the national wildlife week organized by the Rayagada Forest Division Orissa Shri Kulamani Deo from Wild Orissa was the Chief Guest. Prizes to school children, winners in various categories of competitions related to wildlife and wildlife conservation, were awarded.

    3rd October 2007:- Members were present at a function on the 3rd of October 2007 organized by the Orissa state forest (wildlife) department at Bhubaneswar, Orissa during which Government of Orissa awarded the Biju Patnaik Wildlife Conservation Award for 2007 to Shri Mahavir Pakshi Surakhsya Samiti of Mangalajodi, (constituted by Wild Orissa on 10th December 2000). The bird protection committee were given the award by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Orissa Shri Naveen Patnaik.

    5th October 2007:- A joint function was organized with Athamallik Forest Division and Wild Orissa at Handappa in Orissa, which was attended by school children. Volunteers from Wild Orissa interacted with children, on wildlife and nature conservation. Shri Nanda Kishore Bhujabal of Wild Orissa was the Chief Guest. Divisional Forest Officer Athamallik was present. An audio visual presentation on the state’s rich biodiversity was made by Shri A.C.Panda from Wild Orissa. Discussions to mitigate man-elephant conflicts were held. School children participated in a signature campaign to conserve Orissa’s bio-diversity and wildlife. Shri Nanda Kishore Bhujabal, Shri Aditya Charan Panda, and Shri Satyabrata Mishra, from Wild Orissa participated.
    The members held interactions with forest fringe dwellers inside the Satkosia Gorge WLS and with the local forest staff on the impending dangers to Orissa’s biodiversity.

    6th October 2007:- At a function to celebrate the national wildlife week organized by the Foresters Training Collge Angul Orissa members from Wild Orissa were persent. Prizes to school children, winners in various categories of competitions related to wildlife and wildlife conservation, were awarded. An audio visual presentation on the state’s rich biodiversity was made by Shri A.C.Panda from Wild Orissa. Discussions to mitigate man-elephant conflicts were held. Shri Nanda Kishore Bhujabal, Shri Aditya Charan Panda, and Shri Satyabrata Mishra, from Wild Orissa participated.
    The members held interactions with forest fringe dwellers in Tulka, Labangi, Bolanga, Purnakot, Pampasar areas inside the Satkosia Gorge WLS and with the local forest staff on the threats to Orissa’s biodiversity.

    7th October 2007:- Interactions were held with forest staff posted at Tulka and Labangi inside the Satkosia Gorge WLS in Orissa. Discussions to mitigate man-elephant conflicts were held. Shri Nanda Kishore Bhujabal, Shri Aditya Charan Panda, and Shri Satyabrata Mishra, from Wild Orissa participated.
